Today started off slowly and that was going to be quite okay with me as I was coming off my Amazon travels. I washed a few clothes and was going to go grab a pastry and banana and come back to chill for the day.
However, those plans changed when I found out Samson hadn't gotten the yellow fever shot yet because he was waiting for me, so we set out and headed to the clinic to obtain it. When we arrived, the clinic was closed so now we were downtown with nothing to do.
This "what do we do now?" question turned into a full day of simply wandering around and asking, "wonder what that is?" and "where does that go?" We went in random shops and down streets we hadn't visited yet. We made note of food possibilities. We ended up with empanadas and coffee for a late breakfast and rotisserie chicken (think Mami Nora's) and the fixings for a late lunch.
We tried getting pedicures for $1.50 but the girl was gone and when we came back later the whole shop was closed.
After a few hours of wandering, we headed to a historic area called La Ronda, which is thought to be one of oldest streets in Quito and was full of artists, musicians and politicians. Back in the day, gentleman would try to court ladies they were fond of by singing under the lady's 2nd floor stoop. We strolled the street, taking in the art and culture. We peaked through to the back of cafes to catch views of the mountains and La Panecillo (large angel statue overlooking the city). After taking it all in, we picked a venue that overlooked the street and had a gorgeous view of La Panecillo, especially at sunset.
All in all, it turned out to be a pretty awesome day of endless wandering.
